1.
Originally by Leonard Cohen. Like a bird on the wire Like a drunk in a midnight choir I have tried in my way to be free Like a worm on a hook Like a knight from some old-fashioned book I have saved all my ribbons for thee If I, if I have been unkind I hope that you can just let it go by If I, if I have been untrue I hope you know it was never to you For like a baby, stillborn Like a beast with his horn I have torn everyone who reached out for me But I swear by this song And by all that I have done wrong I will make it all up to thee I saw a beggar leaning on his wooden crutch He said to me, "you must not ask for so much" And a pretty woman leaning in her darkened door She cried to me, "hey, why not ask for more?" Oh, like a bird on the wire Like a drunk in a midnight choir I have tried in my way to be free
2.
Originally by The Killers. Small town girl Coca-Cola grin, honeysuckle skin Born beneath the ruddy sign Of a strawberry moon Small town girl Shows up for her friends Crazy 'bout the bends I was there when she first Put away childish things We had spring in our heels Unwavering forces Head first into the unknown Like runaway horses In a fever 'til the end And every step is a silver prayer In the face of a hard wind You traded school For wedding rings and rent, invitations sent Of you and him by a barn Out on the edge of town Small town girl Put your dreams on ice, never thinking twice Some you'll surely forget And some that you never will (never will) There was a promise in our stride But we changed courses Head first into the unknown Like runaway horses In a fever 'til the end And every step is a silver prayer In the face of a hard wind Like runaway horses It's a long way back home again Every step is a silver prayer In the face of a hard wind
3.
Originally by Gram Parsons. In my hour of darkness In my time of need Oh, Lord grant me vision Oh, Lord grant me speed Once I knew a young man Went driving through the night Miles and miles without a word With just his high-beam lights Who'd have ever though they'd build such a deadly Denver bend To be so strong, to take as long as it would till the end In my hour of darkness In my time of need Oh, Lord grant me vision Oh, Lord grant me speed Another young man safely strummed His silver string guitar And he played to people everywhere Some say he was a star But he was just a country boy, his simple songs confess And the music he had in him, so very few possess In my hour of darkness In my time of need Oh, Lord grant me vision Oh, Lord grant me speed Once I knew an old man Kind and wise with age And he read me just like a book and he Never missed a page And I loved him like my father, and I loved him like my friend And I knew his time would shortly come but I did not know just when In my hour of darkness In my time of need Oh, Lord grant me vision Oh, Lord grant me speed Oh, Lord grant me vision Oh, Lord grant me speed

Place to Be 03:19
Originally by Nick Drake. When I was young, younger than before I never saw the truth hanging from the door And now I'm older, see it face to face And now I'm older, gotta get up, clean the place And I was green, greener than the hill Where flowers grow and the sun shone still Now I'm darker than the deepest sea Just hand me down, give me a place to be And I was strong, strong in the sun I thought I'd see when day was done Now I'm weaker than the palest blue Oh, so weak in this need for you
5.
Originally by Don McLean. What can this be, can you tell me? Would you like to discover why we're not free To be lovers? I've been wanting to ask you Where has all the love gone And what have we become Storm clouds full of thunder Move silent as they drum And when they're gone We'll be fine, till tomorrow Though I hope it won't rain You will be mine And my sorrow Will take wings in the morning High above the Heavens A rainbow paints the sky White doves sing their songs of love I watch them as they fly And wonder what can this be Can you tell me Would you like to discover why we're not free To be lovers?
6.
Rosie 03:13
Originally by Tom Waits. Well I'm sitting on a windowsill, blowing my horn Nobody's up except the moon and me, And a lazy old tomcat on a midnight spree All that you left me was a melody. Rosie, why do you evade? Rosie, How can I persuade? Rosie And the moon's all up, full and big, Apricot tips in an indigo sky, And I've been loving you, Rosie, Since the day I was born And I'll love you, Rosie 'til the day I die. Rosie, why do you evade? Rosie, How can I persuade? Rosie Rosie, why do you evade? Rosie, How can I persuade? Rosie
7.
Originally by Lee Hazlewood. Love's a game And it's a shame But sometimes, you don't win But don't you do what others do When I see you again Cause I'd rather be your enemy Than hear you call me friend In a time when I was blind I let you take me in But don't you do what others do When I see you again Cause I'd rather be your enemy Than hear you call me friend
8.
Everywhere 03:37
Originally by Polaris. I put your photograph away I can't look at you today I put your letters upstairs But it's no good because you're everywhere I can try to hide, But why waste my time? You left your glasses behind And somebody said you were doing fine I play a game, but you're not there But it's no good, because you're everywhere I can try to hide, But why waste my time? Center round of you Everything I do says you're everywhere Everywhere I hear a song that you sang It hits my head like a circus train I cried out when you were there You were there because you're everywhere I can try to hide But why waste my time? Center round of you, everything I do I can try to hide But why waste my time? Center round in me, Everything I see says you're everywhere Everywhere Everywhere Everywhere

Don't Follow 04:24
Originally by Alice in Chains. Hey, I ain't never coming home Hey, I'll just wander my own road Hey hey, I can't meet you here tomorrow No say goodbye, don't follow Misery so hollow Hey you, you're livin' life full throttle Hey you, pass me down that bottle Hey hey you, you can't shake me round now I get so lost and don't know how And it hurts to care, at all now Forgot my woman, lost my friends Things I'd done, where I've been Sleep in sweat the mirrors cold See my face, it's growin' old Scared to death no reason why Do whatever to get me by Think about the things I said Read the page it's cold and dead And take me home Yeah and take me home, home Take me home Take me home, yeah Take me home, yeah Say goodbye, don't follow

about

This is a brand new collection of covers I recorded this month. Usually I make these cover albums as a means of musical experimentation. "The Flowers LP" was my attempt at getting better at lo-fi recording techniques. "The Nocturne LP" was to test out new equipment. "The Awakening LP" helped me get better at tracking as a college student. And now this latest batch of covers is my attempt at getting back into the swing of things creatively. In no way are these covers meant to supplant the existing versions, but I hope I did justice to them. Thanks for listening.
